Compressed enough to carry with you, but versatile enough to run demanding applications, a laptop is one of the best tools for conducting business on the go. Whilst tablets and smartphones are extremely popular, most people have realized that writing a paper or conducting business is far easier on a laptop.
There’s a wide range of sizes, features, prices and weights out there on the market which makes choosing the right laptop for you a challenge.
Now, if you’re using your laptop for just home use then this is perfectly okay to consider. However, if you’re looking to buy one for business use then keep reading. Because this is one of the most common mistakes that people make when purchasing a laptop for business.
Out of all the customers we have had over the years, many of them have come to us with this mistake. So, don’t feel embarrassed if you have done this yourself… you’re not the only one.
The thing that is crazy is how much money businesses have wasted from this incredibly small mistake.
And what’s even crazier is how easy it is make.
So, what is this big issue?
Microsoft Windows Home Edition!
It’s not the actual software that’s the issue. However, when you’re buying a laptop for business use then this is certainly going to become an issue for you.
A large number of PC’s/Laptops purchased from stores will have Windows 10 Home Edition pre-installed into them.
And here’s where the problem lies…
A laptop that has Windows 10 Home Edition installed cannot be integrated into an existing network. Many consumer grade computers cannot be upgraded to a Professional Edition version of Microsoft Windows and the operating license key is permanently embedded into the computer.
And, as a business you need those other versions of Microsoft Windows in order to conduct your day-to-day operations. The Home edition just isn’t sufficient enough.
However, the issue doesn’t stop here
We know… “Big deal, if this happens to me I can just get it returned”.
Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. Over the period of time we have been seeing this issue occur, quite often the initial retailer of the laptop has not and will not refund the customer for the laptop as it has already been used. Which is fair enough considering they can’t really sell a laptop second hand a lot of the time.
So… now you’re left with a laptop that really isn’t going to do anything for you or your business.
A work around this?
A lot of people don’t realize that Bolton’s is a competitive re-seller of HP Laptops and Computers. But the fact is… we are!
We don’t however keep stock of laptops in store, but depending on the required equipment we can often have systems delivered within the next business day/s.
Purchasing a laptop isn’t just about the supply of hardware.
We are strong believers in this. Buying a bare laptop is like buying a bed without buying any sheets to sleep in. At Bolton’s we make sure that the hardware you are going to buy is compatible and will fit into your existing network. In transition we make sure that this integration is a smooth, trouble-free process. And, in turn we provide backup support for the purchased hardware.
So, when buying your next business device make sure to consult your IT agent prior to the purchase to save your business from wasting any money. And if you don’t currently have an IT support company looking after your business then maybe it is something you should consider. This way you have a consultant present where you can receive 24/7 support for your IT needs.
